A law proposed by Mayor-President Josh Guillory to prohibit sitting or standing within 3 feet of roads in Lafayette was dropped Tuesday night after council members seemed likely to block it.

Lafayette’s city and parish councils opted to defer a measure proposed by Guillory that would have made it illegal for anyone to “sit or stand for any period of time” within 3 feet of a roadway or on any unpaved median, with exceptions for bus stops.
