A criminal syndicate producing an industrial-scale $40 million cannabis crop in northern NSW has been busted – one of the largest seizures of the drug in Australia.
Fourteen men have been charged after raids last week on the mid-north coast netted 13,353 cannabis plants at rural properties in Minimbah, Melinga and Moorwood.
Drug and Firearms Squad Commander Detective Superintendent John Watson said the seizure was one of the most significant in Australian history.
“As far as cannabis seizures go, we have not seen one of this size since the 1970’s,” Det Supt Watson said on Monday.
