Connecticut may have become the 19th state to legalize marijuana for recreational use, but some Ridgefield officials are looking to prevent weed-related retail shops, production facilities and dispensaries from coming to town.

Under the law, those ages 21 and older can have up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis and possess up to five ounces in a locked container at home or in a car beginning July 1. But recreational sales are not expected to start until late 2022.

First Selectman Rudy Marconi said he will “personally” ask the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission to “further the prohibition of [marijuana] retail sales.”
